"Having A Clean Heart & Right Spirit"

Psalm 51:10 "Create in me a clean heart, O God,
and renew a right spirit within me."

1 Timothy 1:5 (ESV)
2 Timothy 2:22 (NKJV)
1 Peter 1:22 (ESV)
Matthew 5:8 (KJV)

*What is a clean heart?
     - create - idea of beginning, a start
     - clean/katharos - pure, blameless
     - Job 33:9 (ESV)(Elihu)

God creates it!

   1. Can't live an ungoldy present and
        have a clean heart.
        - 1 Jn. 1:8 If we say we have no sin, we
deceive ourselves, and the truth is
               not in us.

   2. Can't keep bringing up the past and
        have a clean heart.
        - Too often, we’re unwilling to offer our spouse
the grace that God, through Jesus Christ, so
freely offers us. Too often, spouses work hard
to refresh their memories of past offenses when
a bad memory is really what is needed – a bad
memory like God exhibits, following our repentance:
As far as the east is from the west, so far does he
remove our transgressions from us. Psalm 103:12
       - Prov.17:9 Whoever covers an offense seeks love,
but he who repeats a matter separates close friends.
       - 1 Cor.13:5 (NLT) It does not demand its own way. It is
not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged.

   3. Can't leave God out of your future and
        have a clean heart.
        - Prov.16:3 "Commit your work to the LORD, and your
             plans will be established."
        - "If you don't need God to pull off what you are
planning, you are not dreaming big enough!"
        - "God seems to have a delightful way of
upsetting the plans we have made, when we
have not taken Him into account." Oswald Chambers

*What is a right spirit?
     - renew - repairing, make new again
     - right spirit - steadfast, perseverance;
             fixed in purpose and resolution.

Psalm 119:5 (ESV)
Psalm 78:5-8 (ESV)

God blesses a pure heart and a
             fixed/steadfast spirit.

God renews it!

    1. Can't keep your eyes on yourself
        and have a right spirit.
        - Ever been around someone that only thinks
of themselves? Not our money, my money!
Always have to do what they want, go where
they want, watch, listen to, eat, etc.
        - 1 Cor.13:5 "It does not insist on its own way."
        - Anna Stanley (Andy's mom) Desired a right spirit.
        - 2 Tim.3:2 "Lovers of self."

    2. Can't maintain baggage and
have a right spirit. (We all have bagagge)
         - Sometimes the pit and the prison lead to
                 the palace. (Joseph)
         - Anger bag, offended bag, bitter bag, jealous
bag, entitlement bag. Can't take a trip, too
            much baggage!
         - Heb.12:1 "Therefore, seeing we also are compassed
about by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay
aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily
beset us, and let us run with patience the race that
            is set before us,

    3. Can't focus on others' problems
         and have a right spirit.
        - Peter/Martha (John 21:22/Luke 10:41-42)
        - Focusing upon others' problems can ultimately
lead to not fulfilling our purpose!
