Pastor's Outline (Charles Ritchie)

Mt. 16:24 “Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone

would come after me, let him deny himself and take

up his cross and follow me.”

Focus on 3 things:

 1. Humility - ditches what “I” want in favor of

     what God wants.

    - What does God want? YOU! Not your religious

talk, but YOU! Not pious ways, but YOU! Not

        sanctimonious accomplishments, but YOU!

    - Mt. 20:15 “Is it not lawful for Me to do what

        I will with My own?”

 2. Sacrifice - the cross interrupts our agendas.

    - What sacrifices are a part of your life because

of the cross? Paul said, “Yea doubtless, and I

count all things but loss for the excellency of the

knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I

have suffered the loss of all things, and do count

them but dung, that I may win Christ,” (Phil. 3:8)

 3. Ministry - following Jesus always finds us in the

            middle of ministry.

    - “Church” never really happens until we move

        beyond these four walls.

    - The greatest ministry: to tell someone else

        about Jesus.

    - “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers

        of men." (Mt. 4:19)

Mt. 16:24:

“Deny himself” - humility

“Take up his cross - sacrifice

“Follow Me” - Ministry

Focus on these 3 things.
